The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify "code", to show that anybody can learn the basics, and to broaden participation in the field of computer science. It has since become a worldwide effort to celebrate computer science, starting with 1-hour coding activities. Students of Washington School participated in the Hour of Code this week. Washington School Students Learn About Celebrations Around the World
The students at Washington School learned about celebrations around the world. This week Mrs. Cormack's Spanish classes talked about the Mexican celebration of Las Posadas. First graders made a necklace that retells the story of Las Posadas, second graders made a Spanish mini-reader and third graders made a flip book identifying key parts of the celebration. DRA Parent Workshop at Washington School
Fifty parents are currently participating in a Parent/Teacher workshop as part of the Second Cup of Coffee series at Washington School. Ms. Anne Hetzel and Mrs. Rachel Mejias are presenting "What Is a DRA?" (Developmental Reading Assessment). Parents are being informed on how a DRA is administered, what are the DRA components and how reading levels are determined. Thanksgiving Parade – Wednesday, November 22 @ 8:35 a.m.
All parents and guardians are invited to attend our annual Thanksgiving Parade scheduled for Wednesday, November 22 beginning at 8:35 a.m. Visitors should gather outside of the school along the fence and sidewalks, similar to Halloween. After the parade is over and all students have made their way into the multipurpose room, parents and guardians may sit in the bleachers to enjoy our Thanksgiving assembly.
