Rutherford Police Department Expands LEAD Program to Grade 3
Third graders worked with staff of the Rutherford Police Department to complete the LEAD course. LEAD stands for Law Enforcement Against Drugs. Students participated in activities that promoted social and emotional learning and the decision making process. The program reinforced making healthy choices. Graduates of the LEAD program received t-shirts and certificates from Officer Ahearn and Sergeant Zeigler. Thank you to Chief Russo and the RPD for supporting this program. Teaching About the Holidays
In order to teach students about different cultures and traditions, we do recognize holidays celebrated in December like Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa. We also discuss other holidays like Diwali and the Chinese New Year throughout the year. Our first grade students participate in a thematic unit about geography and holidays celebrated around the world and students learn about giving to others through our Giving Tree. Students also learn about the Festival of Lights and play dreidel.
