Music: Band & Chorus

VOCAL MUSIC

Mrs. Connie DeFazio

Pierrepont School is proud to have an active music and chorus program. Our 4th, 5th, and 6th general music classes meet once a week. Grades 7 and 8 meet twice a week for part of the year. All classes enjoy a variety of songs, projects and music activities. The goal of the program is to expose students to as many genres of music as possible while teaching appreciation and respect of all styles. In addition, each grade studies a famous composer. Our music folders contain songs from 'Bach to Rock' and must be brought to class every week.

BAND

Mr. Joseph Cavezza

Students in grades 4 through 8 are able to select a band instrument to study. A form is sent home with Lincoln School third grade students at the end of each school year to register for lessons at Pierrepont School.  All 4th through 8th grade students are welcome to register for instrumental music throughout the school year.  Students are placed into classes of similar instruments and learning levels whenever possible.  Each class meets for thirty minutes once a week on a rotating schedule. The rotating schedule prevents students from missing the same class all the time. Class size has a minimum of 3 students.

Our band program is a co-curricular activity that prepares students to participate in the high school concert band and marching band program. The repertoire is varied, multicultural, and performed at an appropriate level of difficulty. Pierrepont School houses three main bands with a total enrollment of approximately 140 students: the Beginner Band, Intermediate Band, and Advanced band. Annual performances for these groups include the Winter Concert in January and the Spring Concert in April.

Other ensembles are formed with these students ranging from small ensembles, marching band, and 7/8 Band.  Our small ensembles perform at various functions including the Lincoln School Art Show and the Pierrepont School Art Show.  The Pierrepont School Marching Band participates in the Memorial Day Parade.  The 7/8 Band participates in the Bergen County Teen Arts Festival in May.

All rehearsals are held before school from 7:40 a.m.-8:10 a.m.

CHORUS

Mrs. Connie DeFazio

Our chorus program is an co-curricular activity that prepares students to participate in the high school program. The repertoire is varied, multicultural and performed in two and three part harmony. Pierrepont School houses three choirs with a total enrollment of approximately 160 students - the 7/8 Chorus, 4/5/6 Chorus and a Select Choir chosen from the two larger groups. Auditions are held in September and January. The combined choirs perform both a holiday and spring concert while the 7/8 choir also participates in the Bergen County Teen Arts Festival in May. Rehearsals are held during lunch and after school.
