This is going to be a very exciting year for everyone! Our beautiful classroom is filled with 24 energetic and enthusiastic 1st graders! They are eager to learn to read so we are busy learning vocabulary words, reviewing initial and final consonants, and introducing short vowel sounds. Beginning in October, the children will bring their hard-covered reader home on Friday. Please listen to your child read the story we have worked on each week. Remember to praise your new reader for his/her efforts.

After a review of numbers, counting, and math terms such as “greater” and “less”, we will be learning addition and subtraction facts, as well as an introduction to word problems.
